For decades, this vibrant San Francisco park was celebrated for its spectacular views of the bay, its eye-catching, 70-foot-high steel sundial, and the city's first skatepark. It has since fallen into decline, but we are working with the city's Recreation and Parks Department, Parks 94124, and community members to restore the space to its former glory—and add new features that residents of the local Bayview neighborhood want most.
Our participatory design team worked to determine what features would be most used by park visitors of different age group. The site plan now calls for a remodeled skate park, a picnic and barbeque area, a scenic overlook, and a Trust for Public Land Fitness Zone® exercise area for adults. The park will also include sustainability features such as native and drought-tolerant plants, natural irrigation, and stormwater retention. Construction of the new park is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
