Between 2001-2006, TPL led the effort to transform a 27-acre industrial site located in St. Paul's East Side into a park and nature sanctuary in honor of late Congressman Bruce Vento. The new Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary is nestled at the foot of tall sandstone bluffs below Indian Mounds Regional Park and includes historic caves, natural springs, and remnants of the area's industrial past. TPL led the transaction and finance work but the vision was driven by the community. This was a joint effort with the City of St. Paul, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Lower Phalen Creek Project, and the National Park Service.
