Arcata Community Forest

Arcata Community Forest featured image

Established in 1955, Arcata’s community forest is the oldest city-owned community forest west of the Rockies. It supports recreation for hikers, mountain bikers, and nature lovers; environmental education for students from nearby Humboldt State University; timber for sustainable harvest; and habitat for several sensitive species such as the California lady’s slipper, Coho salmon, and northern spotted owl. In 2005, The Trust for Public Land helped protect another 200 acres for the forest. We are currently working with the City of Arcata to conserve additional parcels.
