Privacy Policy
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is committed to protecting your privacy. The information below covers what information TPL collects on its website and how we use it. If you have questions or concerns, please email us.
What information do we collect?
TPL collects information
volunteered by visitors, such as answers to survey questions, information
collected when downloading or requesting publications, and information collected
when contacting us for conservation assistance. Information TPL collects
includes personally identifiable information (for example, name, address, and
email), information about organizational affiliation, and information about your
conservation interests. No personably identifiable information is collected
about individuals without their knowledge. TPL also collects aggregate
information about website use, without identifying personal information, such as
what pages and sections are most popular with users.
How is this information used by TPL?
TPL uses the information you
voluntarily provide to help us decide what website content, publications,
emails, and other TPL information would most help you meet your conservation
goals and to shape our Web content and email outreach. TPL may also contact you
to alert you about a conservation opportunity in your area or to ask you to
support our work. TPL uses aggregate information about website usage to shape
website content.
Sharing information with third parties
TPL shares aggregate
information about Web users and Web usage with TPL contractors who help us shape
Web content to user interests and otherwise improve our website. TPL does not
make any list of visitors to the TPL website email available to third parties.
We make portions of our postal mailing list available to carefully screened
organizations that we believe may interest you. If you do not want to receive
this information, please let us know.
Email policy
TPL provides forms on its website where users can
sign-up to receive email publications and email notices and conservation topics.
No one is placed on a regular email list that has not requested subscription
through these forms or in some other manner. Users can unsubscribe from any
email list on the registration section of our website or through the unsubscribe
link on any email we send you. As new email publications are developed, users
may be sent an invitation to subscribe.
Security of Your Information
TPL takes the following measures to
ensure that information collected on TPL's website is kept secure and is used as
intended:
All data is stored on secure, firewall-protected servers either at TPL offices or those of business with whom TPL has contracted to support our online donation, email outreach, TPL Store, and TPL coffee purchase services. Data is accessible only by authorized staff of TPL and its contractors. Sensitive data, such as credit card and other financial information, is collected on secure forms and transmitted using industry-standard Secure Socket Layer Encryption (SSL) technology. Credit card information is retained only as long as necessary to complete the donation or purchase request of the user.
TPL takes utmost precaution to protect credit card information. But users who prefer not to use credit cards for online donations can complete TPL's mail-in and fax donation form available here.
Use of cookies
Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on
your computer and are used for record keeping purposes. TPL uses cookies to facilitate authentication and personalization on our
website. TPL
uses only anonymous information (such as IP address) to track how our
online visitors use our website. TPL's electronic newsletter system requires a password to access the
subscription management page. For the convenience of users, TPL offers the
opportunity to be "remembered," by the system so a password is only required on
the first access. Asking to be "remembered" by clicking the "remember me" or
similar dialog box when asked places a permanent cookie on the user's machine.
Links to Other Sites
TPL's website provides links to several other
third party websites. While we make efforts to choose our links carefully, we
cannot take any responsibility for the content of linked websites, or for the
privacy policies of websites we link to. Since we do not control these websites,
we encourage you to review the privacy policies posted on these third party
websites prior to any use.
Privacy Policy Changes
We may amend this privacy policy from time
to time. Your continued use of our website after the date that such notices are
posted will be deemed to be your agreement to the changed terms.
