Nisswa Lake

Nisswa Lake, part of the 13,000-acre Gull Lake Chain, is a popular fishing, boating, and swimming destination in the central part of the state. During the summer, the area’s population nearly doubles with second-home owners and visitors from throughout the Upper Midwest. The Trust for Public Land purchased 3.7 acres of lakeshore and conveyed the property to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), providing public access to the lake for the first time. Plans call for a boat ramp, parking, native shoreland plantings, and stormwater ponds. A proposed adjacent Nisswa Lake Park, if successful, will be a natural complement to the access property with opportunities for swimming, fishing, and picnicking, and a pier for visitors to dock boats and come into town for food or shopping.
