Washington – Afoot and Afloat in the San Juan Islands

We begin our journey with a private afternoon tour of the Seattle Art Museum’s world-class Olympic Sculpture Park. The next morning, we board chartered seaplanes for a scenic flight to idyllic Orcas Island where we will spend two nights at the Inn at Ship Bay, an 11-room inn built around a 19th-century farmhouse. We will enjoy unparalleled views of the archipelago from Turtleback Mountain, one of the San Juan Islands’ most distinctive geographic features. Next we head to Lopez Island where we spend a day exploring rolling hills, bucolic countryside, and rugged coastal cliffs. Some of us will hop on a bike and cycle out to Shark Reef Sanctuary. Others will take an easy walk along the bluffs, where we will meet for lunch at the home of Tom and Sally Reeve. At the end of the day, we transfer by boat to San Juan Island for two nights at the Friday Harbor House, a luxury inn overlooking Friday Harbor. We’ll also embark on a private wildlife cruise in search of Orcas and a guided hike at Lime Kiln Point State Park.
