The Trust for Public Land has purchased 188 acres of land from the Order of St. Benedict of New Jersey, which owns and manages Delbarton School and St. Mary's Abbey in Morris Township. The property is one of the last large, undeveloped tracts of land in Morris County, and adjoins Lewis Morris County Park and Morristown National Historical Park.

On November 4, voters nationwide approved $7.3 billion in new public money to protect land for parks and open space-the highest amount ever according to The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national land conservation organization. The Trust for Public Land (TPL), Mendham Borough, and the Schiff Natural Lands Trust dedicated the new 107-acre McVickers Brook Preserve adjacent to the Schiff Nature Preserve, the largest nonprofit nature preserve in Morris County. The preserve is named for the Raritan River tributary which flows through the property, and includes the Franklin Parker Trail, honoring the New Jersey conservationist who passed away in February.

In a humbling ceremony today, The Trust for Public Land dedicated the Mount Vernon School Playground at the site where the tragic shooting of four young people occurred just over a year ago.
