Water Works Brook

Water Works Brook had been owned by Connecticut Water Company for more than 50 years and was used as a public drinking water supply source. When the company informed Windsor Locks that it no longer needed this well field for water supply purposes, the town expressed a strong desire to preserve the site for recreational purposes.

The largest remaining open space in Windsor Locks, Water Works Brook is a 198-acre forested parcel with pristine water resources and an extensive trail system for hiking, cross-country skiing, and wildlife viewing. The forest is recognized by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection as a “habitat of conservation significance” that will further protect declining wildlife species and habitats.

The $2 million conservation easement permanently protects the land, while sparing the town the cost of an outright property purchase.
