Hilltop Park

Hilltop Park—once celebrated as a community hub with the first NorCal skatepark and an iconic 80-foot sundial—deteriorated in the early 2000s. Trust for Public Land worked with San Francisco Recreation and Parks, Parks 94124 and community members to restore and improve the park.

Today, Hilltop has something for everyone: a renovated skatepark, new playgrounds with water play, walking paths, barbeques, adult exercise area, and quiet areas for contemplation. The park integrates sustainability features including native and drought-tolerant plants, efficient irrigation, and vegetated swales to manage stormwater.

At Hilltop Park in May 2017, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee announced that San Francisco is the first and only city in the United States where all residents have access to a park within 10-minute walk. The findings were part of Trust for Public Land’s ParkScore® index, an assessment of the park systems of the nation’s 100 largest cities.
