The Trust for Public Land Statement on HR 4895 to Designate the Medgar Everes National Monument

February 7, 2018

"Key to our core values at The Trust for Public Land is the belief that our parks and public lands have the power to tell the important stories of the entire American experience. We support the establishment of a National Monument recognizing Medgar Evers' legacy, which will preserve in perpetuity the story of this tremendous civil rights leader and his tragic early death," said Will Rogers, President and CEO of The Trust for Public Land. "The Trust for Public Land is proud to have contributed to the establishment of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, the Brown V. Board of Education National Historic Site and other places that reflect who we are as a people and a country. We will continue to fight for the preservation of similar places. National Monuments like this have the power to bring Americans together as we move forward towards a more just and equal society. Thank you Congressman Bennie Thompson for your leadership in introducing this bill."
