Cool & Connected Oak Cliff

Beginning in 2017, The Trust for Public Land, Texas Trees Foundation, and The Nature Conservancy have collaborated on an initiative to combat the urban heat island effect, provide greater connectivity among the community’s anchor institutions, and improve community health in South Oak Cliff. Using The Trust for Public Land’s GIS-based decision support tool, the South Oak Cliff neighborhood was identified as high-priority, an ideal location to demonstrate the power of strategic, data-driven investments in green solutions. Through this initiative, our coalition of partners and volunteers have planted nearly 1,000 trees throughout the neighborhood, creating an estimated $2.9 million in environmental benefits over 40 years.
