About the role: Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, the Senior Designer is an experienced design strategist, responsible for creating designs to express our brand look and feel across all internal and external channels. This is a hands-on role where you will be responsible for everything from design strategy to executing the fine details. 
Position description
  • Design excellence - 75%
    • Create smart, on-brand design for the organization across all mediums and multimedia channels.
    • Lead digital-first design transition for social/video/virtual marketing, as well as excellence in print, experiential and event marketing, presentations, merchandise, etc.
    • Create (or coach creation of) new templates for collateral, presentations, digital assets, swag, etc., that the rest of the team can implement for consistency.
    • Partner with the communications team to design and assign resources to develop layouts and ads as needed for organization’s nationally-distributed magazine, Land&People.
    • Partner with the digital team to develop assets for use on digital and social media channels, including our website, inbound and outbound marketing (email, homepage, editorial/digital commerce landing pages, display ad banners, social media assets, animation), editorial content on our blog, special projects/partner initiatives, and other digital marketing initiatives. Contribute to the evolution of donor-centric website design to ensure donor engagement.
  • Design management and leadership - 25%
    • Steward The Trust for Public Land visual identity system, keeping brand guidelines current and advising other designers, staff partners, and outside vendors in its implementation.
    • Serve as design thought partner to marketing leaders and senior leadership across departments.
    • Lead and/or contribute to the intake and interpretation of creative briefs from kickoff to design presentations, translating business and marketing objectives into compelling concepts and creative execution. 
    • Work closely with the marketing traffic manager to assign the right design resources to each job and ensure correct input/approvals are received throughout design process.
    • Guide resource management, file management, and process improvements in collaboration with marketing leaders in content development, digital design, and production.
  • BFA in graphic design or commensurate experience in agency or design firm required
  • Minimum 7 years design experience required, experience managing direct reports preferred
  • Compelling portfolio of digital and print creative
  • Printing production experience, including communication with printers and knowledge of printing processes, file specs, and paper types
  • Strong typography skills
  • Experience with HTML and CSS
  • Strong experience with MAC platform and fluency in the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder. XD knowledge a plus
  • Strong experience designing presentations, including fluency in PowerPoint and Prezi
  • Ability to distinguish file types and their use for both print and web and to resize and optimize assets for different devices and responsive layouts
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including ability to accomplish multiple tasks, and manage multiple priorities and clients while remaining prompt and dependable, hitting budgets and deadlines
  • Ability to work closely with web developers to deploy digital designs
  • Flexible work habits; ability to work under pressure with attention to detail and minimal supervision
