Senior Planned Giving Manager

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Planned Giving, the Senior Planned Giving Manager (Sr. Manager) proactively manages a planned giving portfolio as well as managing the Stewardship efforts of a comprehensive and mature planned giving program.
The Sr. Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective planned giving strategies for donors and prospects in a specific geographic region in order to successfully negotiate and close outright, blended and planned gifts funded with a variety of assets using a broad range of gift vehicles.
Utilizing a team approach, s/he will serve as a technical planned giving advisor and partner to the philanthropy staff, state and program leadership and project managers when working with prospects and their professional advisors in order to generate planned gifts that achieve the donor’s philanthropic objectives as well as securing the future financial success of the organization. 
The Sr. Manager also presents planned giving material and provides training to various internal and external audiences, including philanthropy staff and volunteers, across various platforms.

Essential Functions:

Portfolio
The Sr. Manager identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards legacy donors and prospects with a primary focus on Northern California and the Pacific Northwest
Accomplishes this work with a donor centered and collaborative approach geared towards strengthening and maintaining positive relationship between individuals and The Trust for Public Land as a whole
Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 individuals in the defined geographic region and is responsible for securing, planning, and engaging in 50-75 face to face visits annually
Independently responds to donor inquiries with appropriate information on bequests, life income gifts and other gift planning vehicles and produces associated gift illustrations and contracts through the use of relevant software
Utilizes considerable judgment and initiative in dealing with donors and interpreting policy and procedures
Develops and maintains strong collaborative working relationships within the Philanthropy Department and with all levels of staff across departments within The Trust for Public Land
Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity and potential for helping The Trust for Public Land meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with organizational priorities
Translates complex estate planning concepts into easily understandable, professional and persuasive proposals to present to prospects
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of complex charitable gift planning. Through coursework, professional development, and other sources the Sr. Manager will remain current on emerging trends and in technical knowledge in the areas of estates, trusts, and charitable giving.
 
Stewardship
In collaboration with the Director of Planned Giving and the Director of Donor Relations, the Sr. Manager
Oversees and manages the activities of the Mary and Wallace Stegner Society, which recognizes donors who have included TPL in their estate plans
Develops and facilitates implementation of a comprehensive communications plan with members to keep them informed of important news
Designs and coordinates stewardship events
Creates informational materials and welcome packet
Develops strategy for building and maintaining strong relationships with legacy donors in order to protect and potentially increase future interest gifts to the organization
Devises and implements recognition strategies for legacy gifts at all levels.
 
Qualifications:
Commitment to the mission of The Trust for Public Land
Bachelor’s (4 year) degree preferred; JD, MBA or other related advanced degree also preferred
