Engagement Officer (Tri-State)

Position Summary: 
 
The Tri-State Engagement Officer contributes to The Trust for Public Land’s mission to create parks and protect land for people by qualifying, cultivating, and stewarding strong relationships with donors to build and maintain lifelong partnerships and trust. The Tri-State Engagement Officer has the primary responsibility for the management of mid-level donors ($2,000 - $25,000+), developing and growing a robust donor pipeline, and planning and implementing a calendar of unique engagement and stewardship opportunities that increase revenue and achieve philanthropic goals.  
 
The position will increase the number of renewable mid-level donors supporting the operating needs and programmatic needs with a focus on New York, as well as New Jersey, and Connecticut. The Engagement Officer is responsible for maintaining, cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of 50-70 prospects and donors. The position works closely with the philanthropy and programmatic staff in in New York and the Tri-State region to create unique engagement and stewardship opportunities and communication that demonstrates the value and impact of philanthropic investment, increases revenue and drives philanthropy results. The Engagement Officer works collaboratively as a part of the national fundraising team at The Trust for Public Land. The Engagement Officer reports to the New York Senior Director of Philanthropy.
 
Responsibilities:
 
65%        Relationship Manager: Increases donor giving through prospect identification and qualification, initial discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Builds the prospect pipeline for New York, as well as in CT and NJ. through research, strategy development, meetings, cultivation events.  This position also oversees and manages of the New York Next Gen Council.   Works closely with New York Advisory Board, and program and philanthropy colleagues, to identify prospects, gift opportunities, create donor strategies, and close gifts.
 
20%       Events: Plans and implements donor engagement events such as panel discussions, project site visits, volunteer days, and donor hikes.
 
10%        Donor Relations and Stewardship: Plans and implements stewardship and recognition of donors, individual and/or annual stewardship plans for key donors as assigned, stewardship events, and thank you calls.
 
5%          Other duties as assigned or required.
 
 Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising experience; transferrable skills, such as direct sales, legal, business development may be considered in lieu of direct fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept and apply feedback, follow leadership and align with organizational decisions.
  • Self-motivated; able to multi-task with excellent attention to detail and deadlines; and can perform successfully without regular supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with research, donor outreach and events management
  • Computer proficiency with various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with complex databases or donor management software a plus.
  • Understands The Trust for Public Land’s gift acceptance policies and ensures ethical compliance with fundraising best practices, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
