Position Summary:

Cool Schools Community Parks is a community-focused project that transforms schoolyards into exciting greenspaces where neighbors can play, gather and be well. Parks are open to the public during school off-hours and aim to encourage community connection and creative learning.

Our Community Engagement fellows will lead digital outreach and community engagement in order to activate “Cool School Park” neighborhoods and gain feedback from residents about their future park space. Selected fellows are community-driven and excited about creating accessible park spaces in areas across the city of Dallas.
 
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Serve as a reliable community contact and liaison for TPL Cool School Park engagement and outreach
  • Build relationships within designated “Cool School” park neighborhood through social media, phone calls and email outreach
  • Identify and engage with local community organizations and stakeholders
  • Document and track outreach and community conversations
  • Lead neighborhood online raffle challenge which encourages residents to complete surveys and engagement activities
  • Record community feedback
   Qualifications:
  • Current Dallas resident or strong connection to the following areas (Oak Cliff, Pleasant Grove, Bachman Lake, Bradford Estates,  Oak Lawn, Casa View)
  • Understanding of social media
  • Fluency in Spanish (a plus, not required)
  • Access to internet/computer
  
Fellowship Information:
 
Over 8 weeks, fellows will share surveys and engagement activities via social media, email, and web conferences as well as manage an engagement station at each park site. Fellows will collect engagement materials from each station as well as consistently update on-site  community outreach materials. 
 
Organizers will be encouraged to be creative with their outreach and give feedback to TPL engagement team. At the end of their fellowship term, participants will produce a one-page engagement report that will include a summary of their outreach, successes, challenges and recommendations for future neighborhood outreach.  Fellows will participate in online learning workshops, which will provide fellows with a deeper understanding of the Trust for Public Land’s work. In addition, fellows can enroll in an optional Community Engagement certification course via edX.   
 
Pay Rate: $15/hour for 8 weeks (8 hours a week).
