Cartography Assistant - Temporary, 8 Month

This Santa Fe, NM-based position is responsible for supporting cartography projects for a nationwide parks and land conservation organization. We invite you to consider this temporary, 8 month, full time cartography position on our team of enthusiastic and talented National GIS conservation professionals. The department supports organizational work for 30+ offices working in partnership with local and state governments on land conservation operations. This position focuses on creating cartographic products (digital, printed and web apps), supporting the Cartography Program Manager and the Cartography Associate. This is a fast paced job, assisting on at least 5 high quality maps per week.  
  • Create maps and cartographic products as assigned by the manager.
  • Convey complex, technical project components to non-technical/non-GIS staff and partners 
  • Excellent customer service and a true passion for creating the right cartographic product with the right message for staff and partners
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS, or a directly related field
  • 1-2 years of hands-on professional experience working with geographical or land information systems to input and present data 
  • Extensive knowledge of ESRI software ArcGIS 10.3 and higher
  • An understanding of and proficiencies in cartographic principles
  • Patience required – most map products require a lot of iterations with staff and partners
  • Excellent oral, written communication skills
  • Understanding of GIS analysis 
  • Mastery of personal computer concepts and software applications, particularly Excel, Access, Power Point, database applications and other graphics programs 
  • Attention to detail, organization, diligence and commitment to excellence 
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure on multiple projects
  • Ability to work on complex assignments exercising good judgment and taking initiative with little supervision 
  • Experience with ArcGIS Online highly preferred
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator highly preferred
