Daniel L. Avchen

Daniel Avchen, FAIA, is the Executive Director of Strategic Growth at HGA Architects and Engineers in Minneapolis where he also served the past 19 years as CEO. Through his leadership, he has positioned HGA as a national design firm with eight offices specializing in arts, higher education, healthcare, government and corporate work. He fosters a culture for design excellence and innovation that has produced architecture of iconic beauty and function, including most recently the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts Expansion and Concert Hall opening March 2015, and Lakewood Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, which won a 2014 AIA Honor Award for Architecture. Avchen serves on numerous professional Boards and Committees, including Minneapolis Parks Foundation, The Colburn School Board of Directors, National Advisory Board of the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, Cranbrook Academy of Art National Advisory Board, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton Finance Committee and Trust for Public Land. He is Past Chair of the Goldstein Museum of Design at the University of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Parks Foundation and the Minnesota Dance Theatre.
