Salmon Creek at Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area

In partnership with New York State, the Towns of Parma and Greece, and Monroe County, TPL added 240 pristine acres along Salmon Creek to the Braddock Bay Wildlife Management Area in the early 2000s.

As a shallow water bay-marsh complex, this landscape provides excellent habitat for waterfowl nesting, resting, and feeding. Mallards, blue-winged teal, and wood ducks are among the species that commonly nest in the area. And during spring and fall migrations periods, scarce species such as brants, Barrow’s goldeneyes, and Harlequin ducks use the area.

The conserved marshes also have a benefit to people. Beloved as a recreational area and birding site, the wetlands also work to prevent pollution from entering the creek and nearby Lake Ontario. In addition to birding, the wildlife area is popular across seasons for fishing, hiking, hunting, and cross-country skiing. Upwards of 300 species of birds have been recorded in the bay.
