Salvador Wildlife Management Area Expansion

Just 12 miles away from New Orleans, Lake Salvador is a hot spot for fishing, waterfowl hunting, and wildlife viewing. As the largest lake south of the city, part of what makes Lake Salvador so special is its role in meeting the demands of seafood markets and restaurants of greater New Orleans—meaning this lake’s impact stretches beyond those who visit it.

In November 2025, TPL partnered with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, LA Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, and Restore the Earth Foundation to protect an additional 628 acres, including four miles of Lake Salvador shoreline. Our work here will help protect vital wildlife habitat and provide critical storm surge protection that is essential to the area. Additionally, this expansion will ensure Lake Salvador will continue having a stable and healthy shoreline, now and for generations to come.
