Will Nicoll was born in Denver, Colorado, but spent the majority of his childhood in Long Lake, Minnesota. After high school he completed a month-long NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) course in British Columbia and then attended classes in Europe with extended stays in Salamanca, Spain and Oxford, England. Will briefly attended Denison University (where he met his wife Emily) but returned to study at the University of Minnesota.
Will currently works for MP Johnson Construction and supervise the stocking and distribution of tools and materials in the company's shop and at various job sites around the metro area. Notable projects that MP Johnson Construction has worked on include the complete remodel of the Minneapolis Hilton, Keiran's Pub in Block E (the only substantial remaining tenant), and the ongoing remodel of the Minneapolis Hyatt.
Will is inspired by his sister, Katie, who works for NOLS as an instructor, as she has blazed her own path through life. Katie has led trips throughout North and South America, and also does wilderness counseling for young adults. Will and his wife reside in South Minneapolis with their daughter, Harper, and are eagerly awaiting an addition to the family this summer.
“Whether it be fly fishing the streams of southeastern Minnesota or western Wisconsin, hunting pheasants and ducks with my father, annual trips to the Boundary Waters, or skiing, biking or walking the wonderful trails and parks throughout the metro area, nearly every activity I enjoy in my free time involves some use of public space in the outdoors. I cherish the memories I've accumulated in these places with friends and family. The continued creation, preservation and stewardship of public places is something I've always been passionate about. I'm excited by the opportunity to accord future generations the ability to connect with the world around them through time spent in these locations.”
