Monongahela National Forest

For over 20 years, TPL has been helping protect land for the Monongahela National Forest. Over 60,000 acres have been conserved, protecting important wilderness lands in the Cheat, Greenbrier, Gauley, and Potomac watersheds; creating more than 35 miles of trails from the acquisition of old railway corridors; and protecting wilderness and backcountry areas through the acquisition of outstanding mineral rights, including 16,000 acres in the Cranberry Backcountry. In 2004, TPL helped add over 7,000 acres to the forest outside of White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County. In 2010, TPL also helped protect a 448 acre stretch of a scenic, Civil War-era corridor—a heavily traveled route over the Allegheny Mountains.
