In West Virginia, The Trust for Public Land has helped to protect heritage sites at Harpers Ferry National Historic Park and the School House Ridge Civil War battlefield. TPL's work to expand the state's national forests and recreation areas encompasses more than 70,000 acres of trails and wilderness. These valuable additions include watershed land on the Gauley River, whose popular whitewater rapids make it a regional economic engine.
