Living Landscapes of North Central Washington

Nelson Ranch, North Central Washington

For centuries, communities of North Central Washington have benefited from the region's diverse landscapes. Today the area's natural resources support the agriculture, timber, ranching and tourism industries at heart of the local economy. Here, kids grow up with hunting, hiking, fishing and skiing—a lifestyle that attracts development.

With support from the locally based Icicle Fund, TPL conducted a series of planning studies that laid out a vision for the future of the Wenatchee watershed that established the importance of the Stemilt-Squilchuck watershed to the region's economy, water and wildlife, and examined the future of traditional agriculture and ranching in the Okanogan Valley.

Building on these efforts, TPL and local partners now working—with the support of the community—to put our most recent plan, The Wenatchee Foothills Community Strategy into action, guiding development into suitable areas, maintaining the agricultural heritage and character of the region, and preserving and improving public access throughout this beautiful landscape.
