Located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Virginia's George Washington National Forest protects wildlife habitat and offers spectacular scenery. In 2001, TPL purchased a 167-acre property near the popular Wolf Gap Recreation Area, which includes the excellent view from Bowers Mountain. TPL's other additions to this and the Jefferson National Forest have provided access to trails, fishing and hunting for people with disabilities, and linked a regional network of equestrian trails near the Blue Ridge Parkway. Only three hours outside of Washington, DC, the forest is accessible to millions of outdoor enthusiasts.
