Elm Court Park

For decades, TPL has been helping to create pocket parks in American cities, leading staffers in TPL's Montpelier office to decide conservation should start close to home. Assembling grant funds and coordinating with city, state, and nonprofit partners, they turned a 1,500-square-foot portion of the office's front yard into a public park, with native landscaping, benches, a wheelchair-accessible plaza, and a butterfly garden. Dedicated in September of 2003, the park at Court and Elm Streets entertains a steady stream of visitors--parents with babies, school kids, seniors, and downtown office workers on lunch break. TPL donated a conservation easement over the park area to the Capital Area Land Trust, ensuring that even if the property is eventually sold, the park will remain open to the public.
