Vermont's natural and working landscapes attract tourists, businesses, and new residents, sustaining local economies—and a way of life. Land conservation helps balance the needs of a growing population by protecting drinking water, local food sources, critical wildlife habitat, and our connection to all the wonders of the Green Mountain State.

Working with communities to protect their most important landscapes, The Trust for Public Land is able to quickly acquire priority land for conservation, securing treasured places until the public can purchase them. Our land transaction experts help create new parks and community forests, expand trail networks, and conserve historic farms, natural areas, and river watersheds. As of 2013, we’ve protected more than 53,000 acres throughout Vermont—particularly in the Green Mountains and the Connecticut River watershed—and helped towns establish community forests throughout the region.
