Since 1999, The Trust for Public Land has protected natural and historic places on the islands of St. John, St. Croix and St. Thomas. TPL works with landowners, local leaders and the National Park Service to protect some of the islands' most significant areas of natural beauty, critical habitat and heritage. During the past decade, TPL has conserved sites on all three islands—from expansive forested preserves at Maho Bay on St. John, to traditional estate properties on St. Croix to a cherished and historic park in downtown Charlotte Amalie, the islands' capital, on St. Thomas.
