Lookout Mountain
Since 2001, The Trust for Public Land has bought and conveyed to the National Park Service (NPS) several high-priority natural sites: Smith Hill and Tyndale Hill, at the foot of Lookout Mountain; five battle sites and historic transportation corridors along the mountain-side; and two historical properties in the Moccasin Bend area. We have also worked closely with NPS, Tennessee Congressman Zach Wamp, community groups and other nonprofit organizations on federal legislation to create the Moccasin Bend Unit, which was signed into law in 2003.
