The Trust for Public Land is redeveloping the asphalt-covered William Dick Elementary Schoolyard, creating a new recreation space for the school and community that will help manage stormwater runoff. During the 2012 school year, our team met twice a week with students in grades 6-8 to discuss various aspects of site and playground design, learn about current users and uses, play and green infrastructure elements, and work through site plans. You can read more about the participatory design process on our design journal.
We have received approval on the schematic design, and are currently developing construction documents so we can bid in the winter and begin building in the summer.
