Connecting three University of Toledo campuses and numerous parks and trail systems, the Westside Rail-to-Trail project will convert an 11-mile long railroad corridor into a hiking and biking trail, providing significant recreational and health and wellness opportunities for Toledo's citizens and students, as well as new economic development opportunities. In October 2011, The Trust for Public Land finalized the purchase of the CSX rail corridor, which will be owned and managed by Metroparks of the Toledo Area, the Wood County Port Authority, the City of Toledo, the University of Toledo and the Wood County Park District.
