PlaNYC 2030

P.S. 7, New York City

Released in 2007, PlaNYC is an unprecedented effort undertaken by Mayor Bloomberg to prepare the city for one million more residents, strengthen the local economy, combat climate change, and enhance the quality of life for all New Yorkers. The Plan brought together over 25 City agencies to work toward the vision of a greener, greater New York.

Through this program, TPL will create more than 200 acres of safe, new parkland at 151 public schools, providing neighborhood places for more than 380,000 children to play, exercise, and socialize with family and friends. Focusing on communities that are underserved by parks, our efforts add trees, gardens, tracks, sports fields, courts, outdoor classrooms, chess and picnic tables, and much more to these new public spaces.

As of 2011, the program has added hundreds of acres of new parkland while improving existing parks, created or preserved more than 64,000 units of housing, and built whole new neighborhoods with access to transit. The plan also addresses access to transit, energy efficiency and green house gas emissions. More about PlaNYC.
