Working with the U.S. Forest Service, TPL helped protect 1,280-acres of the Tampico Springs Ranch in the Cibola National Forest.  Now part of the forest, the property creates an important buffer for the adjacent Zuni Pueblo and further safeguards water quality.  The ranch is also home to the Tampico Springs Draw, a tributary to the Rio Nutria and Zuni River and habitat for the Zuni Bluehead Sucker, a fish listed by the State of New Mexico as an endangered species and a candidate for Federal listing under the endangered species act.  Popular with outdoor enthusiasts, the national forest offers year-round recreation including camping, snow sports and equestrian activities.
