Crotched Mountain

The Crotched Mountain Foundation's school and rehabilitation hospital in Greenfield, New Hampshire, has served the community for more than 50 years. The scenic, 1,400 acre campus includes 2.5 miles of wheelchair-accessible hiking trails, the nation's largest such system in a mountain setting and a model for accessible trail design. Open to the public as well as campus residents, the trails include a scenic overlook on Crotched Mountain and a wildlife viewing area surrounded by wetlands.
To protect this unique resource, the foundation sought The Trust for Public Land's help in developing a conservation easement agreement with the State of New Hampshire. The easement created additional funding for Crotched's charitable mission of serving people with disabilities while also fostering forest stewardship and habitat protection.
Completed in 2012, this project was funded by the USDA Forest Service's Forest Legacy Program.

more »Two distinct trails provide diverse outdoor experiences at Crotched Mountain. The Gregg Trail is a series of graded switchbacks rising 200 feet to a ridgeline knoll with panoramic views to the west, south, and east of Grand Monadnock. The Dutton Brook Trail includes a loop that winds around an abandoned beaver-built wetland and features diverse forest and animal habitats.
