Great cities need great parks. The Parks for People-Twin Cities program works to ensure that everyone in the Twin Cities metro area lives in close proximity to a safe park, trail, community garden, or other open space. In this spirit, our work in the Twin Cities has helped create and conserve the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary in East St. Paul, the Caponi Art Park, Minneapolis community gardens, Pilot Knob, the Wayzata Woods, and other key conservation projects.

Currently, The Trust for Public Land is leading efforts to create an ambitious downtown Minneapolis signature linear park—The Gateway—that will deliver downtown residents, visitors, and workers to the Mississippi River. This green corridor will allow safe and beautiful passage to bicyclists and pedestrians from the downtown core near the Light Rail, along Nicollet Mall, to the great Mississippi River.

Our vision is to continue expanding the Twin Cities' magnificent park system to create and increase connectivity between public parks, gardens, trails, and other natural areas. We hope to connect vibrant downtown business districts, the inner city neighborhoods, and growing suburban and exurban regions. This strategic investment to protect land and water is essential to preserve the overall quality of life in the places where most Minnesotans live, work and play.
