The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge was established in 1997 to conserve native plant, animals, and habitat throughout the four-state Connecticut River watershed. With the support of Friends of Conte and other local partners, TPL recently completed its fifth project protecting grassland bird habitat along the Fort River, the Connecticut's longest free-flowing tributary in Massachusetts.
