The town of Crownsville, just outside of Annapolis, is home to Sahlin Farm, the largest undeveloped forested parcel on the Severn River. In 1999, the Severn River Land Trust partnered with TPL to acquire an easement on the 292-acre property, an important fish spawning and waterfowl nesting area. The farm was slated for development as a residential subdivision, but Winchester Homes agreed to terminate their development contract if TPL could find a buyer for an easement on the property. TPL worked for over three years with Anne Arundel County, helping raise funds and negotiating the purchase of the easement by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to protect this vital Chesapeake Bay watershed land in September, 2001. The land extends open space known as the "Green Cathedral," a large expanse of protected woodlands enjoyed by community residents.
