Holbrook's Wharf

For almost 150 years, Holbrook's Wharf has helped define the community of Cundy's Harbor, Maine. Commercial fishing vessels still tie up at the wharf, and its general store and snack bar has welcomed residents and summer visitors in search of supplies, lobster, and ice cream. When the wharf's longtime owners needed to sell, the community feared loss of waterfront access for local fishermen, and the demise of the local gathering place. In 2006, TPL secured the property, keeping it off the market, then worked with residents to raise the money needed to "Keep Holbrook's Working." With help from a state grant, the wharf and buildings are now owned and managed by the Holbrook Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization formed to preserve the wharf as a community asset.
