In a changing landscape—both physical and economic—The Trust for Public Land is helping Maine residents protect and maintain their community resources. In the northern forests, TPL is promoting sustainable forestry as an alternative to subdivision and development, restoring wildlife habitat and access for recreation in the process. In Portland, the Bayside Promenade Project is converting disused industrial area into a vibrant network of parks, gardens and public gathering areas—a new gateway for Maine's largest city. As of 2011, TPL has protected 134,500 acres across 66 projects.
