The Trust for Public Land has helped to pass three state ballot measures in Iowa that are creating new funds for conservation. In 2008 The Trust for Public Land’s Conservation Finance team helped residents of Johnson County pass a bond measure that set aside $20 million to preserve farmland, create parks and trails, and protect watershed lands, wildlife habitat, and forests.

In 2010, we steered a campaign that resulted in voters approving a future 3/8-cent sales tax increase. These funds will protect farmland, and improve water quality and natural areas including parks, trails, and fish and wildlife habitat across the state.

In 2012, our Conservation Finance team helped helped residents of Polk County (which includes Des Moines), pass a $50 million bond by 72%. The money will pay for buying land to protect sensitive areas, connect greenways, and improve water quality.
