The 157-acre Rodeo Grounds Ranch, located just 5 miles from the historic town of Stanley, served as the historic Custer County rodeo grounds for many years. With its stunning views of the entire Sawtooth Range, the property is extremely vulnerable to subdivision and development. The property—one of only three remaining unprotected large parcels in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area(SNRA)—provides extraordinary fisheries and recreational and scenic resources. With substantial frontage along Valley Creek, an important tributary of the Upper Salmon River, it provides critical habitat for Chinook and Sockeye Salmon, Steelhead, and Bull Trout all listed as threatened or endangered species. The proposed conservation easement on the Rodeo Grounds Ranch will allow for continued historic ranch uses and private ownership of the property, while conserving its natural values and guaranteeing recreational access by anglers to Valley Creek.

To date, TPL has completed seven conservation projects in the SNRA, from a one-acre parcel in Stanley to a conservation easement on the 1,800-acre Piva Ranch.
