Hawai‘i’s North Shore, O'ahu

Hawaii

The North Shore of O'ahu is world-famous as a surfing hotspot—but the region boasts natural treasures well beyond the waves. Here, 30 miles of scenic coastline give way to prime agricultural land, valuable wildlife habitat, and heritage sites resonant with Hawai’i's unique cultural legacy.

More than 2 million visitors flock to the North Shore each year, drawn by its natural beauty and top-notch recreation opportunities. To safeguard these resources—critical to the local economy and quality of life—The Trust for Public Land has helped protect more than 3,000 acres, from the Waimea Valley cultural park to the coastal bluffs of Pupukea-Paumalu.

The Trust for Public Land is working closely with local partners like the North Shore Community Land Trust and U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii to safeguard the future of the North Shore. Our Conservation Vision team has helped craft a community Greenprint to identify high-priority lands for conservation and the most effective strategies to protect them.
