Soque River
Credit: Darcy Kiefel
Though only 30 miles long, the Soque River is a vital tributary to the Chattahoochee River. The health of these rivers contributes to drinking water quality for millions of people downstream in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. This cold-water stream is also home to a significant population of brook trout—Georgia's only native trout species—making it a popular destination for fly fishers.
In July 2012, The Trust for Public Land purchased 20 acres along the Soque River. We are now working to add the property to the Chattahoochee National Forest, where it will boost public access to the river for trout fisherman and hikers.
Funding for this purchase came from the Turner Foundation and Trout Unlimited.
