Snake Creek Heritage Preserve

The Trust for Public Land conserved 805 acres along the Snake Creek Gorge, a scenic, ecologically and geologically unique resource that Carroll County sought to protect from major development. Amazing rock outcroppings, whitewater rapids and steep topography add to the beauty of the area. The Snake Creek Gorge includes 19th century mill ruins, Creek Indian and Civil War heritage sites, and is considered the birthplace of the pine-pulp paper industry. More than 655 acres were protected by a permanent conservation easement, and 157 acres along Snake Creek, a tributary of the Chattahoochee River, will become a passive recreation park.
