Darrow Pond

The 301 acres of the Darrow Land are a scenic mix of forest, trails, and open fields, with old towering tulip trees and are adjacent to 3.600 acres of open space.

The property, one of the largest unprotected open space parcels left in the Town of East Lyme, would be an additional safeguard to the Town’s Aquifer Protection Area, and a portion of it may be used to site a water tank, helping to alleviate the Town’s two-decade long battle against persistent water shortages.

Once slated to be a 600-unit development, today the Town hopes to purchase the land for conservation, recreation, and drinking water storage and protection, while also creating the only town park north of Interstate-95. TPL currently holds an option to purchase the property for the town. The town’s board of finance approved a $4.5 million bond and in early September East Lyme voters approved a referendum to allow the town to purchase the land. TPL expects to complete the project this fall.
