Danbury Community Garden

The town of Danbury is the seventh-largest city in Connecticut and home to a large immigrant population. In 2010, the Trust for Public Land performed a feasibility study to determine the need and support for a community garden in the downtown area.
The study concluded that there was strong local interest, but a lack of capacity to lead this effort. The Trust for Public Land is lending its expertise in community garden and urban park projects to create a new community asset in partnership with local volunteers and non-profits.
TPL is approaching the garden’s creation in several phases, first by selecting an interim site to gauge local support while assessing the best location for a permanent garden, then working to ensure long-term community support to sustain a permanent garden into the future. In 2011, planting began. TPL will invest in the purchase of land for a permanent site.
