Curecanti National Recreation Area

The National Park Service asked TPL to help preserve these 557 acres of heavily timbered land adjacent to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Lying along one of Colorado's most scenic highways, the land offers stunning views of the Black Canyon and contains stands of aspen and evergreens as well as riparian land along Meyers and Johnson creeks. The rolling terrain, rock outcroppings, and forests will attract hikers, picnickers, and campers.
In 2001 TPL negotiated the purchase from a private landowner and acquired the land using money from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund. It will be managed as a part of the Curecanti National Recreation Area.
