Maumelle Water Excellence

Drawing on its expertise in conversation transactions, TPL helped Central Arkansas Water acquire roughly 1,400 acres along the Big Maumelle River. The most recent purchase in January 2012 protected 488 acres along the north shore of Lake Maumelle, which supplies drinking water to over 400,000 Central Arkansas residents. Pristine forests of oak gum and cypress will become part of a riparian corridor linking nearby public lands and adding three miles to the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. Programming plans include a water conservation information center and hunter education for local youth.
