Granite Dells

A few miles outside of Prescott are the Granite Dells, massive boulders of ancient, weathered rock. To protect this iconic landscape from development as the population grows, the City of Prescott asked The Trust for Public Land to help implement an open space plan.
In partnership with local conservation leaders, we polled voters and directed a campaign that led to a sales tax extension in support of the open space plan. With the funds approved, The Trust for Public Land secured three high-priority properties in the Watson Lake natural area near Granite Dells, sparing them from imminent development. The land now provides hiking trails, a picnic area, trail kiosk and a much-needed link from the Granite Dells to the popular Peavine Trail.
