The Trust for Public Land's Conservation Vision and GIS services uses innovative research, planning, and spatial analysis (GIS) to create parks and green spaces. Our methods and technologies bridge the gaps between science, planning, and implementation.
Conservation Planning
TPL delivers community-based conservation plans that help local policy and decision makers.
Greenprinting, TPL's award winning GIS-based service, provides a framework for communities to prioritize their parks and conservation goals and implement funding and land protection strategies. Using GIS in a transparent mapping and modeling process, Greenprinting engages local residents in a thoughtful, place-based planning exercise.
Our greenway and trail planning services include sharing best practices for trail planning; helping communities articulate regional trail visions; and delivering the nuts-and-bolts of trail planning (e.g. estimating construction and maintenance costs, determining trail location through community input, fundraising consulting, and acquiring land and easements.)
For large landscape analyses we develop strategic parcel-level conservation plans that guide land protection work to achieve long-term objectives. TPL uses mapping to demonstrate the importance of individual projects against landscape objectives and associated metrics.
Custom Research & Database Tools
TPL crafts custom research, analysis, and planning solutions to meet the unique needs of municipalities, foundations, non-profit organizations and other private and public agencies. We offer a range of products focusing on ecosystem services, project selection criteria, opportunities for park improvement and more. We also equip conservation professionals with extensive and up-to-date information through our numerous research databases:
- Conservation Almanac: tracks dollars spent on land conservation and acres protected by states and federal government.
- LandVote: compiles conservation finance ballot measures detailed by state, finance mechanism, and jurisdiction type.
- The National Conservation Easement Database: provides a comprehensive national repository of conservation easements.
