Natural Lands

Americans have always had a special connection to the wilderness. Today, with an estimated 2 million acres of land lost to development each year, preserving our iconic natural landscapes is more important than ever.
Through the Natural Lands initiative, The Trust for Public Land works to protect wildlife habitat, natural resources, and the unique recreational opportunities provided by wild and scenic lands. TPL’s projects conserve large, untouched ecosystems—like the Crown of the Continent in the Northern Rockies—as well as small and strategic inholdings within national parks and forests.
TPL works with communities across the country to help conservation leaders balance the demands of growth with the need to protect wilderness and open space. Working with willing landowners, TPL conveys land to local, state, and federal agencies—ensuring public access to America’s most spectacular landscapes.
